A 6561: Includes image-guided biopsies under mandatory insurance coverage for breast cancer screening.
The bill aims to expand insurance coverage for breast cancer screening in New York State. It will include image-guided biopsies under certain insurance coverage for breast cancer screening. The coverage will be based on nationally recognized clinical practice guidelines, which are evidence-based guidelines informed by a systematic review of evidence and an assessment of the benefits and risks of alternative care options. The guidelines must be developed by independent organizations or medical professional societies using a transparent methodology and reporting structure with a conflict of interest policy. The bill will take effect on January 1, 2027, and will apply to all policies and contracts issued, renewed, modified, altered, or amended after that date.
