What A 6598 does, verified May 27, 2026

The bill proposes to amend the election law to update the age requirement for voting in a primary election. Currently, a person must be 18 years old to vote, but for primary elections, a person who will be 18 years old at the time of the general election can vote. The proposed change would remove the distinction between primary and general elections, allowing anyone who will be 18 years old at the time of the general election to vote in the primary election. The bill also clarifies the residency requirement, stating that a person must be a resident of the state and county for at least 30 days before the election. The changes would take effect when a concurrent resolution proposing an amendment to the state constitution is adopted.
