A 6615: Enacts the optometry freedom act which prohibits a carrier or vision plan restricting an optometrist's choice of supply.
What A 6615 does, verified January 8, 2026
The "Optometry Freedom Act" aims to give optometrists more freedom to choose their suppliers of services and materials. The act defines key terms, including "covered materials" and "covered services", to clarify what is covered by a vision care plan. The law prohibits contracts between carriers or vision care plans and optometrists from restricting or limiting the optometrist's choice of suppliers. This change allows optometrists to use optical labs provided by the optometrist to an enrollee, giving them more flexibility in their practice. The act takes effect immediately, giving optometrists more freedom to choose their suppliers and practice their profession.
