What A 6669 does, verified January 9, 2026
The bill aims to expand eligibility for the cooling assistance component of the home energy assistance program. Currently, applicants must demonstrate that their household contains at least one person with a documented medical condition exacerbated by extreme heat to be eligible. This requirement is to be removed, allowing more households to receive cooling assistance benefits. The bill also requires the state to notify the legislative bill drafting commission upon receiving a federal determination that the provisions of the bill do not render the state ineligible for federal participation in the low-income home energy assistance program.
