A 693: Provides that the contact information for the department of corrections and community supervision and the office of victim assistance shall be provided to crime victims.
The bill aims to improve the process for crime victims in New York State. The district attorney or court must provide crime victims with an informational pamphlet detailing their rights at the time of sentencing or as soon as possible. This pamphlet will be prepared by the Division of Criminal Justice Services in consultation with the Office of Victim Services and the Office of Victim Assistance. The pamphlet will include the defendant's incarceration status and provide contact information for the Office of Victim Assistance, including a toll-free telephone number. The bill also requires the Office of Victim Assistance to be listed on the department of corrections and community supervision's contact information. The changes will take effect on the same date as a previously proposed amendment to the executive law.
