What A 6988 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to provide a discount to drivers who install dashboard cameras in their vehicles. The insurance companies must offer an actuarially appropriate reduction in premium charges for personal injury protection and medical payment coverages. The driver or authorized driver must acquire the camera at their own expense. Insurance companies can allow the option to show proof of installation in person or virtually, with minimal burden to the insured. The state department may increase or decrease the awarded reduction if it finds the initial reduction is not actuarially appropriate. The law will take effect on the 30th day after it becomes a law.
