A 710: Relates to the taking of wildlife without a permit; takings may only be done subject to regulations promulgated by the department; regulations shall incorporate the recommendations of the most recent guidelines on euthanasia of the American Veterinary Medical Association; provides that the taking method selected shall be the least stressful, quickest and most painless to the animal available while protecting human health and safety.
The proposed law aims to relax regulations on taking wildlife without a permit in New York State. The law allows property owners and employees to take certain wildlife, such as skunks, raccoons, and coyotes, to protect their property and prevent damage. These animals can be taken in any manner, but the method used must be the least stressful and quickest, while also protecting human health and safety. The law also prohibits killing wildlife taken alive in traps unless it is pursuant to a permit or special license. The law is intended to promote humane treatment of wildlife and reduce the use of inhumane methods.
