What A 7309 does, verified January 11, 2026

The bill aims to correct a reference to the applicable tax assessment roll for the Ruth Am Zion Church, which is exempt from real property taxes. The church can file an application for exemption with the town of Brookhaven assessor, and if accepted, it will be reviewed as if it had been received on or before the taxable status date. If the exemption is granted, the town board may refund any taxes paid by the church and cancel outstanding fines, penalties, and interest. The bill allows the church to receive the exemption despite missing the original taxable status date.
