A 7331: Requires the office of fire prevention and control to pay training stipends in specific amounts to volunteer firefighters for completion of certain firefighter trainings; provides that if a volunteer fire company pays training stipends to volunteer firefighters in an amount below what is otherwise required to be paid by OFPC, OFPC shall pay the remaining amount.
The bill aims to provide training stipends to volunteer firefighters in the state of New York. The Office of Fire Prevention and Control can offer state funds to cover the costs of specific firefighter trainings, such as basic exterior firefighting operations with hazardous material and self-contained breathing apparatus with interior fighting operations. Volunteer firefighters can receive training stipends from either the Office of Fire Prevention and Control or their local fire company. However, they cannot receive stipends from both sources for the same training. If a local fire company provides a training stipend for a firefighter training that is also eligible for the Office of Fire Prevention and Control stipend, the Office of Fire Prevention and Control will pay a supplemental stipend to ensure the volunteer firefighter receives the full amount. The bill takes effect immediately.
