What A 7350 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to improve the safety and security of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and New York City Transit Authority systems. The legislation mandates a temporary halt on state funding to the MTA and NYCTA until critical safety and security benchmarks are met and an independent forensic audit of the MTA's finances is completed. To achieve this, the MTA must implement a comprehensive plan to reduce transit worker assaults, reduce fare evasion, and address crime and safety issues. An independent auditor will conduct a forensic audit of the MTA's finances and provide a public report of findings, which the MTA must implement to address financial mismanagement and deficiencies. The MTA must also submit quarterly compliance reports to the governor and the legislature. If the MTA complies with the provisions, the funding suspension will expire and be deemed repealed.
