A 7439: Increases width and weight of the description specifics for an all terrain vehicle.

New York · Assembly · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 9, 2026

What A 7439 does, verified January 9, 2026

The bill proposes to amend the Vehicle and Traffic Law to increase the width and weight of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in the state of New York. Currently, ATVs are defined as vehicles that do not exceed 80 inches in width or 2,000 pounds in dry weight. However, this definition does not include snowmobiles and other off-highway vehicles designed for travel on snow or ice. The bill would revise this definition to exclude vehicles with skis or runners and utilize an endless belt tread. The changes would take effect 30 days after the bill becomes a law.
