What A 7535 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to amend the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law to ensure that the state liquor authority has at least two members from different political parties. The current system allows the governor to appoint all members of the authority, which could result in all members belonging to the same party. This bill changes the appointment process to require at least two members to be from different parties. The existing board members will continue to serve until their terms expire, and new members will be appointed for a three-year term. The compensation for commissioners will be $260 per day, plus expenses, and the chairperson will receive an annual salary established by the executive law.
