A 7562: Requires health insurance policies include coverage for anesthesia for the entire duration of a procedure for which a licensed medical practitioner has issued an order for such anesthesia.
The proposed law aims to require health insurance policies to include coverage for anesthesia services during medical procedures. This means that insurance companies must cover the entire duration of anesthesia time, without imposing time limits. The law defines anesthesia time as the period when an authorized anesthesia provider is present with the patient, from preparation for anesthesia to post-anesthesia care. Insurance companies must pay for anesthesia services based on medical coding and billing standards, using a base plus time units system. This ensures that insurance companies do not limit the payment for anesthesia services, and that the payment is fair and consistent. The law applies to all insurance companies that provide coverage for hospital, surgical, or medical care, including group and blanket policies. The proposed law takes effect immediately.
