A 7568: Requires the state librarian to provide guidance on the curation of library material to all school library systems.
The School Libraries Curation Guidance Act requires the state librarian to provide guidance to all school library systems on the curation of library materials. The guidance must include standards for ensuring a wide range of viewpoints, prohibiting censorship, and providing access to developmentally relevant materials. The state librarian must also establish procedures for reviewing and deaccessioning library material, including evaluating its relevance, condition, availability of duplicates, and continued demand. The state librarian will maintain a list of school systems that adopt policies meeting these minimum standards, which will be published on the department's website.
