What A 7606 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to protect New York's environment by adding two invasive species, the Asian longhorned tick and the lone star tick, to the state's invasive species list. These species will be included in the comprehensive plan for invasive species management and efforts will be made to prohibit and control their spread at project sites funded or regulated by the state. The law also requires the state to review and reform relevant regulatory processes to remove unnecessary impediments to restoring invaded ecosystems. Additionally, information on these species will be included on statewide databases and clearinghouses to promote data sharing and collaboration with neighboring states and organizations. The law will take effect 90 days after it becomes a law, and allows for the immediate implementation of necessary rules and regulations.
