A 7689: Prohibits insurers from cancelling life insurance policies based on a medical condition that was disclosed in the application for insurance.
What A 7689 does, verified January 9, 2026
The bill aims to amend the insurance law to provide greater transparency and protection for policyholders. It requires applicants for life insurance policies to provide a statement from a licensed physician or access to their medical records at the time of application. This information will help insurers assess the risk of insuring the applicant. Once the application is accepted and the medical condition is disclosed, insurers cannot subsequently reject the application or cancel the policy based on that condition. The changes will take effect immediately.
