A 7759: Updates the definition of the term "reusable bag", as used in the environmental conservation law, to specify minimum material and durability standards.
The bill aims to update the definition of the term "reusable bag" in the Environmental Conservation Law. A reusable bag is defined as a bag made of cloth or machine washable fabric that has handles, or a durable plastic bag with handles that is designed for multiple reuse. The bag must meet certain standards, including being made of recyclable materials, having a minimum lifespan of 125 uses, and a minimum fabric weight of 80 grams per square meter. The bill also clarifies that the bag must have a strap or handle that does not stretch and is securely fastened to the bag. The definition of a reusable bag will help to distinguish between bags that can be reused multiple times and those that are intended for single use.
