What A 7797 does, verified September 28, 2025

The bill aims to amend the tax law to allow the county of Albany to impose a one percent additional sales and compensating use tax rate for a specific period. The additional tax rate is intended to raise revenue for the county. If the county imposes this additional tax rate, it must allocate and distribute the resulting net collections to the cities and area outside the cities in the same proportion as the county's three percent tax rate. The county must also distribute a portion of these net collections to the towns and villages in the same manner as the county's three percent tax rate. The bill allows cities in the county to impose their own tax rates, and the county is not required to allocate and distribute net collections during periods when a city tax is in effect. The bill takes effect immediately.
