A 7904: Authorizes school districts to establish reserve funds for special services or programs upon approval by the board of education of such district in an amount not to exceed 10% of other reserve funds of the district.
What A 7904 does, verified May 18, 2026
The proposed law allows school districts to establish reserve funds for special services or programs without voter approval, as long as the total amount in the reserve fund does not exceed 10% of the district's total reserve funds. The reserve fund can be used to cover the cost of special services or programs established by the school district. The board of education will determine the amount, term, and source of the reserve fund's monies. The district must pay an annual amount into the reserve fund to meet the board's requirements. The board can also direct the school authorities to pay into the reserve fund monies from other sources.
