Assembly BillIntroduced

A 815: Relates to ensuring net metering is a compensation floor for residential producers of energy.

New York · Assembly · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 16, 2026

What A 815 does, verified January 16, 2026

The bill aims to ensure that net metering remains a compensation floor for residential producers of energy. Net metering allows customers who generate their own electricity to sell any excess to the grid at the same rate they pay for it, but the bill seeks to protect this policy from being undervalued. The bill requires customer-generators to comply with any commission determinations related to restructuring of the electric industry, but ensures they are not compensated at a value less than what would exist under net energy metering. The bill takes effect immediately.
