A 8224: Allows political subdivisions which contract to receive fire protection services from a special fire company or department to jointly establish a service award program with political subdivisions which contract to receive ambulance services from the same special fire company or department.
The bill allows political subdivisions that contract for fire protection and/or ambulance services from a special fire company or department to jointly establish a service award program for volunteer firefighters. To create such a program, each participating political subdivision must approve an agreement by a majority vote of its governing board and its voters must separately approve the proposition. The program can only be administered by the participating political subdivisions or the state of New York. If a political subdivision ceases to contract for services, it will automatically withdraw from the program. The service award program will take effect immediately.
