The bill aims to allow Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to be used for menstrual products. SNAP benefits will be able to cover the cost of sanitary napkins, tampons, and panty liners. The Department of Social Services will apply for a waiver or request authorization from the federal government to make this possible. The waiver or authorization must be granted within 90 days of the bill's effective date. The bill will take effect immediately, but the provision allowing SNAP benefits to be used for menstrual products will only be implemented once the waiver or authorization is received from the federal government.
