A 8383: Authorizes a licensed pharmacist to administer any recommendations made by the commissioner of health pertaining to a vaccine that has been authorized by the federal Food and Drug Administration; relates to insurance coverage for immunizations; removes the requirement to follow the advisory committee on immunization practices of the centers for disease control and prevention recommendation for immunization against meningococcal disease.
The bill aims to expand access to immunizations in New York State. Currently, licensed pharmacists can administer certain immunizations with a patient-specific order or non-patient specific regimen, but this is limited to specific vaccines and patient groups. The bill would allow pharmacists to administer a broader range of immunizations, including those for adults and children over 2 years old, with a patient-specific order or non-patient specific regimen. Additionally, the bill would permit certified nurse practitioners to prescribe and order immunizations for patients over 18 years old. The bill would also remove the requirement for a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation for certain immunizations. The goal is to improve public health by increasing access to immunizations and reducing barriers to vaccination.<br>The bill aims to expand reproductive healthcar…
