Assembly BillIntroduced
A 8534: Prohibits discrimination against individuals who have tested positive for HIV with respect to life, accident, and health insurance coverage.
What A 8534 does, verified January 8, 2026
The bill aims to prohibit discrimination against individuals who tested positive for HIV when it comes to life, accident, and health insurance coverage. It specifically targets two key sections of the insurance law, which would refuse to insure, continue to insure, or limit coverage based on an individual's HIV status or their prescription for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PREP) medication. The bill would effectively eliminate these discriminatory practices, ensuring that individuals with HIV or those taking PREP medication can access insurance coverage without being unfairly discriminated against.
