What A 8688 does, verified August 19, 2026

The bill aims to modify the Vehicle and Traffic Law to improve safety on roads when emergency vehicles or vehicles displaying a green or blue light approach. The law will require all drivers to yield to these vehicles and stop if they are approaching. Drivers of other vehicles must immediately move to the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway, or to the edge of a one-way roadway with three or more lanes, clear of intersections, and remain in this position until the approaching vehicle has passed. This rule applies to all drivers, including those of authorized emergency vehicles.
