What A 8775 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to expand the veterans' preference in certain housing projects. It allows for preference in admission to open waiting lists for persons or surviving spouses of veterans who did not serve during a time of war. This preference is given by mutual companies, urban rental companies, or the New York State Housing Finance Agency when subleasing dwellings in these projects. For closed waiting lists, preference is given upon opening. However, residing individuals in limited-profit housing projects are given first priority for internal transfers within the project. The law takes effect immediately.
