The state of New York is creating a septic system replacement fund to help property owners replace their septic systems. The fund will reimburse up to 50% of eligible costs for standard septic system projects and up to 75% of eligible costs for enhanced septic system projects. Enhanced septic system projects are designed to reduce environmental and public health impacts, such as nitrogen and phosphorus pollution. The fund will be administered by the Environmental Facilities Corporation and will not reimburse property owners or septic system installers for costs exceeding certain limits. The bill will take effect immediately and will apply to all enhanced septic system projects for which a property owner has signed a participation agreement with a participating county.
