What A 8946 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to amend the social services law to require medical assistance to include payment for medical care, services, or supplies related to blood pressure monitoring for eligible pregnant women. The law will allow payment for these services without prior authorization, as long as federal financial participation is available. However, this provision will not apply to medical assistance if federal financial participation is not available due to the pregnant woman's immigration status. The bill also aims to ensure that payment for these services does not affect the medical assistance if federal financial participation is not available. The changes will take effect immediately.
