Assembly BillIntroduced
A 9079: Relates to the provision of on-premises alcohol consumption licenses; provides such licenses may be provided if the owner or administrator of a school, church, or other place of worship affirmatively provides support for the issuance of such license and such license would have been denied only for the proximity to such buildings.
What A 9079 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed law aims to relax zoning restrictions for establishments that serve alcohol near schools, churches, synagogues, and other places of worship. Currently, such establishments are prohibited from serving alcohol within a 200-foot radius. The law would allow establishments in cities with a population of less than one million to be within this radius if the owner or administrator of the place of worship provides support for the license. This change would enable establishments to serve alcohol in areas that are not currently permitted. The law would take effect immediately.
