What A 9256 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to prevent disruptions during funerals by making it a crime to engage in certain activities within a certain distance of a cemetery or funeral location. A person is guilty of this offense if they make noise or disturb the peace during a funeral, or if they impede access to or egress from the cemetery. The bill defines a funeral as the ceremonies and services held in connection with a burial or cremation, and protest activities include picketing, speeches, displaying signs or banners, distributing handbills, and using sound amplification equipment. Violations of this law are considered separate offenses, and the penalties increase for repeat offenders. The law takes effect one month after it is passed.
