The bill requires a mandatory component of thirty minutes on "work zone safety" awareness education as part of the pre-licensing course for motor vehicle operators. This component aims to educate prospective licensees on potential dangers, legal obligations, and consequences of violations in work zones. The education topics include identification and navigation of highway construction zones, signage, flagging operations, barriers, lane shifts, variable speed limits, and statistics on unsafe driving behavior. The curriculum will be adaptable to both in-person and online formats, include a certification of completion, and track student performance. The bill also ensures that completion of the "work zone safety" component is documented and retained as part of the applicant's licensing record. The act takes effect on the ninetieth day after it becomes a law.
