A 9291: Increases the mandatory retirement age of members of the uniformed force of the fire department of the city of New York from sixty-five to sixty-seven.
The proposed law aims to increase the mandatory retirement age for members of the fire department of the city of New York from 65 to 67 years. Members who reach the new retirement age will be retired and placed on the pension rolls. However, members who have not completed 35 years of creditable city service before reaching the new retirement age may continue to serve until they complete the required years of service. Additionally, the law allows for a limited extension of service for members who have reached the mandatory retirement age, but are still capable of performing duty, up to a maximum of two years. This extension is subject to approval by the board of estimate. The law also transfers the membership of medical officers to the mandatory retirement provision. The changes will take effect immediately.
