What A 9391 does, verified December 29, 2025

The bill aims to amend the Uniform City Court Act to make changes to the residency requirements for part-time judges. Currently, the judges must be residents of the city they serve, but some exceptions apply to judges serving in specific cities. The bill relaxes these residency requirements for some judges, allowing them to reside in adjacent counties. The changes apply to judges serving in cities such as Tonawanda, Peekskill, and Hudson, and affect judges who have taken office since 2018 or 2013. The bill also establishes a process for the city of Tonawanda to notify the legislative bill drafting commission when a part-time judge's term expires or they vacate their office. The amendments to the Uniform City Court Act take effect immediately and will expire when the first part-time judge appointed since 2016 vacates their office or when the judge's term expires, whichever occurs first.
