A 962: Relates to establishing a one hundred percent clean renewable energy system for electricity by two thousand thirty-four; provides such energy system shall include solar, wind, geothermal and tidal sources.
The proposed law aims to establish a one hundred percent clean renewable energy system for electricity by 2030. This goal is intended to create jobs, promote economic growth, improve public health, protect the environment, and avoid climate catastrophe. The law requires the state to set a goal of achieving this objective through the adoption of a state energy plan. The plan must establish a target of achieving a one hundred percent clean renewable energy system by 2034, with zero net greenhouse gas emissions. The law defines "clean renewable energy" as energy derived from solar, wind, geothermal, and tidal sources, excluding nuclear power, natural gas, biomass, and fossil fuels. The law takes effect on the first day of the following year after it is enacted.
