New York · Senate · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 14, 2025

What J 124 does, verified January 14, 2025

This resolution aims to raise awareness for organ, eye, tissue, marrow, platelet, and blood donation in New York State. It was inspired by National Donor Day, which was started in 1998 to promote awareness and encourage donations. The resolution highlights the need for organ donations, with over 9,000 New Yorkers waiting for transplants and more than 400 dying each year due to a lack of available organs. It also notes that one person can save up to eight lives through organ donation and that tissue donations can improve 12 or more lives. The resolution calls for greater public awareness and educational initiatives to encourage donations and increase activity at local, state, and national levels.
