J 199: Recognizing February 1, 2025, as National Freedom Day
The purpose of this recognition is to acknowledge the abolition of slavery in the United States. It is celebrated on February 1st to honor the contributions of African Americans throughout history and to recognize their valuable contributions to the protection of the country's democratic society. The celebration also recognizes America as a symbol of freedom and honors the signing of the 13th Amendment of the United States Constitution. This amendment was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1865, although it was not ratified until 1865. The recognition also acknowledges the efforts of individuals such as Major Richard Robert Wright, who played a role in creating this national holiday. The celebration is meant to promote diversity, peace, and equality, and to enhance the country's commitment to freedom and justice.
