J 2368: Commending Kristen Cummins upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

This resolution formally commends Kristen Cummins for receiving the Liberty Medal, the highest individual honor bestowed by the New York State Senate. The award recognizes her exceptional heroism and humanitarian actions on June 6, 2026, when she rescued a stranded fisherman named Matthew Veshia from Lake Durant near Blue Mountain Lake. Despite answering her phone after hours during a severe storm, Cummins immediately gathered safety equipment to paddle out to the capsized boat. After successfully reaching Veshia, who was injured by a fishing lure and suffering from hypothermia, she transported him to a peninsula while he trekked through the woods to dry land. The resolution highlights her spontaneous compassion and willingness to risk her own safety to preserve the life of another, exemplifying the best qualities of New York citizens.
