J 295: celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Shirley Chisholm, a transformational leader whose legacy of courage, equity, and advocacy continues to shape the nation

 Senate Resolution No. 295 BY: Senator PARKER COMMENDING the Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club upon the occasion of hosting its 3rd Annual Catalyst Awards in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Shirley Chisholm's Legacy WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy accomplishment whose endeavors serve to enhance the fabric of their communities and inspire future generations; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club upon the occasion of hosting its 3rd Annual Catalyst Awards, celebrating 100 years of Shirley Chisholm's enduring legacy, to be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025; and WHEREAS, Named in honor of the trailblazing Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress and the first woman and African American to seek the presidential nomination of a major political party, this esteemed organization upholds her principles of courage, equality, and progressive action; and WHEREAS, The Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club, through its unwavering commitment to community engagement, political advocacy, and social justice, has carried forward the values that Shirley Chisholm championed during her groundbreaking career; and WHEREAS, The 3rd Annual Catalyst Awards exemplify the Club's mission to honor outstanding leaders, visionaries, and changemakers who embody Shirley Chisholm's motto, "Unbought and Unbossed," and who continue to advance the causes of equity, inclusion, and opportunity; and WHEREAS, This year's celebration marks the centennial of Shirley Chisholm's birth, a milestone that highlights her transformative contributions to American politics and her enduring influence as a catalyst for change; and WHEREAS, The Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club has demonstrated exceptional dedication to fostering a spirit of empowerment, education, and action within the communities it serves, ensuring that Shirley Chisholm's legacy remains vibrant and relevant for generations to come; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to acknowledge the profound impact of Shirley Chisholm's life and the continued efforts of the Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club to honor her memory and promote her ideals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend the Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club upon the occasion of hosting its 3rd Annual Catalyst Awards and to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Shirley Chisholm's legacy; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the Shirley Chisholm Democratic Club.
