New York · Senate · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified May 21, 2025

What J 298 does, verified May 21, 2025

The resolution commemorates the bravery and contributions of Hispanic soldiers and veterans, particularly the Borinqueneers, who served in various wars, including the Korean War. The Borinqueneers, a regiment formed from Puerto Rican volunteers, were initially prevented from seeing action during World War II due to racial prejudice and segregation. However, they played a significant role in the Korean War, achieving great success in operations Thunderbolt and Exploitation. This resolution aims to recognize their achievements and contributions to the nation's freedom and peace. It proposes to proclaim April 13th as Borinqueneers Day in the state of New York, in conjunction with the observance of National Borinqueneers Day.
