What J 592 does, verified September 28, 2025

The bill commemorates the 150th anniversary of a zoo in Binghamton, New York. The zoo was established in 1875 on land donated by a wealthy businessman, Erastus Ross, who stipulated it would be a public park. Over the years, the zoo faced financial struggles and the threat of closure, but was saved by a local organization that took over its operation and maintenance in 1977. Today, the zoo is a leading example of conservation efforts, with naturalistic exhibits, a strong emphasis on education, and an outreach program that serves thousands of people. In honor of its 150th anniversary, the zoo unveiled a national mural mosaic, a collaborative project with artists from around the world. The bill congratulates the zoo on this milestone and recognizes its dedication to conservation and education.
