What K 12 does, verified January 20, 2025

The bill aims to recognize January 15, 2025, as Bagel Day in New York State. This celebration commemorates the spirit of New York and acknowledges the state's rich history with bagels, which were brought by Eastern European and Jewish-immigrant communities in the early 1900s. Bagels became a staple in Manhattan's Lower East Side, where they were first introduced in the 1600s. The bill also honors the contributions of immigrant-owned bagel shops, which have played a significant role in New York's vibrant culinary scene. By proclaiming January 15, 2025, as Bagel Day, the bill encourages the state to reflect on its immigrant roots, support small businesses, and enjoy this beloved cuisine.
