K 214: Memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim March 17-23, 2025, as Neurodiversity Celebration Week in the State of New York
The proposed resolution aims to recognize and celebrate neurodiversity in the state of New York. Neurodiversity includes conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety. It is estimated that one in seven Americans are neurodivergent, with over 29,000 children in New York state affected by autism and 6% of children diagnosed with ADHD. Neurodivergent individuals often face challenges in school and experience social isolation and bullying. Despite these challenges, they offer unique talents to their workplaces, schools, and communities. The resolution aims to create a more inclusive and equitable culture that celebrates differences and empowers all individuals. It also aims to increase public awareness of the unique strengths and potential of neurodivergent people and support their families.
