K 444: Memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 7, 2025, as Fentanyl Awareness Day in the State of New York
This resolution aims to raise awareness about fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is involved in a national public health crisis. Fentanyl is cheap, potent, and profitable, and is often found in a variety of drugs, including heroin, cocaine, and prescription pills. It is the leading cause of death among Americans under 50, and is involved in more deaths than heart disease, cancer, and other accidents. The resolution also highlights the issue of counterfeit pills, which are mass-produced and falsely labeled as legitimate prescription pills, posing a significant threat to public safety. The resolution calls for greater public awareness and increased efforts to educate, support, and protect those affected by fentanyl addiction, as well as their families and caregivers.
