K 561: Memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim November 14, 2025, as World Diabetes Day in the State of New York
What K 561 does, verified September 28, 2025
The bill aims to recognize November 14, 2025, as World Diabetes Day in the state of New York. The day was created in 1991 to raise awareness about the growing health threat of diabetes. It is marked annually on the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin in 1922. Diabetes has been present for centuries, but our understanding of it is relatively new. The bill seeks to promote awareness of the disease, which affects 90% of those with type II diabetes, and has significant economic costs. The resolution calls on Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim November 14, 2025, as World Diabetes Day in the state of New York.
