K 743: Memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim July 2025, as Fibroid Awareness Month in the State of New York
The resolution aims to promote awareness and understanding of uterine fibroids in the state of New York. Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in the uterus, and African American women are affected at a higher rate than any other ethnic group. The condition results in significant economic costs, including $238 million to $7.76 billion annually in obstetric outcomes, and $5.9 to $34.4 billion in total medical expenses. The resolution proposes to establish health seminars, funding opportunities, medical information panels, and community programs to empower residents and encourage earlier diagnosis, research, and better treatment options. By proclaiming July 2025 as Fibroid Awareness Month, the state aims to foster measures to battle this disease and improve the health and well-being of its citizens.
