S 10162: Removes residency requirements for Washington county deputy county attorneys, provided that they live in Washington county or an adjoining county within the state of New York.
What S 10162 does, verified May 30, 2026

This bill amends the Public Officers Law to remove strict residency requirements for the office of Deputy County Attorney in Washington County. Under the new provisions, a person holding this office in Washington County must reside in Washington County or an adjoining county within New York State, rather than being required to live specifically within the county's political subdivision. The legislation maintains that Deputy County Attorneys in any other county must continue to be residents of that specific county unless other laws apply. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
