The bill aims to limit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's ability to set special open seasons for taking wild deer. The new law would allow the department to establish special seasons for a specific number of days, starting from the eleventh day after the close of a regular deer season and ending on the third Sunday of December. However, the department would need to consult with local governments and stakeholders before issuing such regulations. The changes would take effect immediately.
