What S 1265 does, verified January 11, 2026

The proposed law aims to require electronic income tax preparation software to provide a link to a New York state voter registration website. This link should be easily accessible and prompt users to register to vote when they use the software. The law is intended to increase voter registration in the state by making it more convenient for citizens to register while preparing their taxes. The law will take effect after a certain period, allowing software providers sufficient time to implement the required changes.
