New York · Senate · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 8, 2026

What S 1504 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law aims to relax restrictions on crossbow hunting in New York. Currently, crossbows must have a minimum limb width of 17 inches, a minimum peak draw weight of 100 pounds, and a maximum peak draw weight of 200 pounds. The law would remove these restrictions, allowing crossbows with a minimum limb width of 17 inches and a minimum peak draw weight of 100 pounds to be used for hunting. Additionally, the law would require crossbows to have a working safety mechanism. The proposed law would take effect immediately.
