S 160: Relates to authorizing voting by incarcerated people.

New York · Senate · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified February 3, 2026

What S 160 does, verified February 3, 2026

Every citizen, including incarcerated individuals, aged 18 or over, who is a resident of the state for 30 days preceding an election, is entitled to vote in all elections for public offices and on questions submitted to the vote of the people. No person who receives compensation or makes a promise to influence the giving or withholding of a vote can vote in an election. This includes receiving money, goods, or services as a reward for voting, or making a promise to influence the vote. The proposed amendment aims to protect the integrity of the electoral process by excluding individuals who have committed bribery or infamous crimes from the right to vote.
